This position is located at the San Diego Police Department.


The selected candidate for this Network Administrator position will be located on site, at the San Diego Police Dept (SDPC).   An offer will be contingent on passing a background investigation with the San Diego Police Department.  
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

 

  • Develops strategies and direction for systems solutions using current and emerging technologies (including wireless) in a Microsoft/Linux client/server environment
  • Design, install and support mission critical and complex LAN systems 
  • Monitor and optimize server and network for maximum performance 
  • Manage and maintain backups, storage management, system security and LAN documentation 
  • Perform new server installations and install hardware/software upgrades to existing servers
  • Translates business requirements into systems or process designs
  • Plans and recommends systems hardware, systems management software and architecture
  • Approves and modifies systems design and architecture to ensure compliance
  • Reviews systems performance, ensures capacity planning is performed and is proactive in assessing and making recommendations for improvement
  • Provides input on technology purchases and on future projects or environment upgrades/modifications, evaluating new or enhanced technologies
  • Plans and recommends storage hardware deployments and purchases
  • Perform PC/printer hardware and software installations and upgrades as highest level support 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve simple to complex problems withstand alone and networked PCs and printers 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve LAN/WAN connectivity issues
  • Research and evaluate emerging and new technologies
  • Lead and mentor staff members by providing technical and professional guidance
  • Submit weekly status reports
  • Attend and participate in staff and project meetings
  • Escalate issues to supervisor or manager when necessary to ensure quality delivery of services
  • Act as project lead when required
  • Provides 24/hr/7 day support as directed
  • Ability to pass a background check for San Diego Police department
 SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
  • Minimum eight year's experience as a server administration in a large WAN environment
  • High degree of technical knowledge in state-of-the art communication technologies
  • Knowledge of network architectures (LAN/WAN), network management systems and protocol
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Strong technical leadership skills
  • Demonstrates advanced analytical skills which result in resolution of the most complex technical problems
  • Extensive knowledge of technical aspects in Information Technology
  • Bachelor's degree in an associated discipline or equivalent experience


The following certifications and/or experience is required:


  • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist Windows 2008, or 1 years extensive experience in the setup, configuration and deployment of Windows 2008 server.  A MCSE certification with extensive experience in Windows Server 2000/ 2003 is required if the applicant does not have a MCTS certification
  • CCNA and/or 3-5 years experience in the deployment of Windows systems in a large Wide Area Network environment and a thorough understanding of network protocols and the OSI model
  • VMWare Certified Professional (VCP) or 1-2 years extensive experience in the configuration, management and deployment of Virtual Server instances in VMWare
  • Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist Windows 2-3 years experience in the design, deployment and management of Microsoft Exchange systems
  • 3-5 years of extensive experience in the Windows Active Directory environment.  At least 1 year as a Domain Administrator
