SAN DIEGO - On May 12, 2010 San Diego Data Processing Corporation (SDDPC), the technology services provider and partner of the city of San Diego, accepted the 2009 Project of the Year Award from the Project Management Institute (PMI), San Diego chapter, for the "OneSD" initiative to replace the city's outdated and disparate software systems with a new system designed to improve internal communications, promote responsible fiscal management and modernize day-to-day operation efficiencies. SDDPC worked with the city's information technology department to comprehensively plan, develop and implement OneSD.

PMI Project of the Year Trophy"This award recognizes the joint project management efforts of SDDPC and the city to bring this very large, complex project to successful completion," said Neil Khan, SDDPC project manager for OneSD. "We are proud to accept it on behalf of everyone involved. Hundreds of individuals participated to make this new system available to the entire city, streamlining city financial systems, processes and controls."

SDDPC also worked with business solutions partner SAP to create the sophisticated and cost-effective system that consolidates a wide range of financial, logistic and human resource functions into a single integrated system. Replacing more than 200 separate applications, OneSD serves as the foundation for the city's core business processing and information functions, like procurement, budget development, payroll and accounting. It helps make daily work and reporting procedures more efficient and accurate across the city's 11,000-person operation. "With OneSD's integrated functionality city departments are able to communicate more effectively," Khan noted.

SDDPC began initial planning phases in 2006 in response to an independent auditor's report that the city needed to improve its internal systems within a very tight frame. Working across a wide range of disciplines with a large team of diverse IT professionals, including experts within both SDDPC and the city, SDDPC launched the OneSD program for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in July 2009. The two remaining modules, Public Budget Formulation and Human Capital Management, were completed in December 2009. PMI is a recognized global leader in advancing the practice, science and profession of project management. The Project of the Year Award recognizes the accomplishments of a project and the involved project team for superior performance and execution of exemplary project management.

In 2009 Gartner, Inc. awarded SDDPC "Best in Class" and ranked it in the top 2 percent of the entire industry.
